Genomics InSPiRD Showcase

Jun 6, 2025

InGeNA were delighted to collaborate with Queensland Health’s Office of Research and Innovation during their Genomics InSPiRD Showcase on May 29, 2025, at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.

A vibrant event celebrating the impact and promise of genomics across Queensland’s healthcare system with over 200 attendees (both in person and online) joining the showcase, which brought together clinicians, researchers, industry partners, and consumers to exchange knowledge, foster collaboration, and spotlight innovation.

The program included: keynote addresses; moving consumer stories; and plenary sessions featuring some of Queensland’s leading voices in genomics research and practice. A thought-provoking panel discussion on equity and data sharing in genomic research brought together diverse perspectives from academia, healthcare, industry, and the consumer community.

Attendees also had the opportunity to explore poster displays showcasing exciting genomics research taking place across Queensland, highlighting the innovation and dedication driving the field forward at both clinical and community levels.

The Genomics Pitch Panel was a dynamic session providing an invaluable platform for fostering new collaborations and advancing impactful translational research. Five shortlisted finalists pitched their cutting-edge research ideas to a panel of experts, competing for funding and support to take their innovations to the next stage. Congratulations to Prof Elizabeth Powell, Dr. Shradha Subedi and Dr. Olivia Holland who were awarded funding to advance their research to the next stage, along with an exciting opportunity to participate in the Translational Research Institute’s ACTIVATE Program 2025.

The showcase concluded with a captivating keynote from international guest Professor Michael Toft Overgaard (Aalborg University, Denmark), whose presentation on the intersection of infanticide and inherited cardiac arrhythmia highlighted the profound impact genomics research can have in uncovering truth, guiding diagnosis, and saving lives.

As the peak body industry in Australia’s genomics sector, we are a key connector to organisations and individuals passionate about advancing genomics to improve the health and wellbeing of Australians and predict, prevent or control diseases by
